Silver Banks Trip!

SWIM WITH HUMPBACK WHALES IN THE SILVER BANKS!

Feb 19-26, 2011

2 Spots remain

Ever wanted to swim with a whale? How about a Humpback whale 50 feet long? You have to experience a whale song from right next to a singing male to believe how loud and powerful it is. But nothing compares to having a baby humpback swim up to check you out. An incredible, mind-blowing experience! In 2011, I am leading my second expedition to swim with humpbacks. If you are interested in joining this amazing expedition, drop me a line!

The Silver Banks are a shallow area between the Turks and Caicos and the Dominican Republic, known to be the largest single calving ground for north Atlantic humpback whales. (See map below). It is one of the best places in the world to swim with humpback whales because they are used to it.

Our home for the week.

Here is a Google Map of the area.

Some pictures from the 2002 trip:

Mother and calf heading off into the afternoon blue....

Mother and calf (the fin of the escort can just be seen behind the mother).

Mother and calf from another angle. Christine showed us all how it's done! This is from her first ever roll of whale pictures!

A male humpback sleeping near the bottom. This one was a challenge for my free-diving skills. The bottom was 90 feet!

Just after this whale swam by, Becky was heard to say "That was a BOY whale!" Definitely no arguing with that!
